"Visit Uruguay?

Yes we do! On January 29th, we started our visit to Uruguay. We, that are Achim, Hansgünther and Jochen from Germany and me. While Achim and Jochen and special Hansgünther already have made a lot of fishingtrips to Central- and Southamerica, for me it was the first time. I will never forget this trip!

The whole trip was perfect organized by “Mr. Uruguay”, Felipe Cantera. He is the ultimate guide an host. His knowledge about fauna and flora of Uruguay is amazeing. With him on your side all get so easy. He knows the right places to catch the fishes and also the methods to catch them. He also knows the right places to spend the night and specially very good houses and restaurants to eat :-)! He said, that the “natives” (Felipes word) eat a lot. You can’t imagine the quantity they’re eating! And after a lot of meat you will receive a postre! So you have to say early: nada mas.

The country is amazeing. During the trip you will see a lot of cattle, sheeps, horses and gauchos. But also the native fauna and flora is great. There were a lot of different birds (specially the nandus), snakes, turtles, spiders and naturally the huge amount of different species of fishes. The choice of the different species in the Zanja’s, Canada’s, Arroyo’s or Rio’s is better then in every tank or petshop! You can’t imagine the amount of different species you will find in a little pond or even in an Arroyo. Also the countryside is very special, the wideness of the eastern part and the smoothy hills of the central part of the country. It’s really different to the mountains in Switzerland!

But not only the country is very lovely, also the people that we’ve meet during our trip were very friendly. Also the traffic in Uruguay was no problem, I felt safer on Uruguays streets than on many highways of the European Countrys. Perhaps the reason for this feeling was also our driver Pedro. At least I would like to thank to all the people which we met during the trip. A special thank goes to Adriana, Macarena an Jesus for their hospitality at the estancia, to Theresa for the great meals in Salto, to Pedro for the safe journey, to Helen (an her help) for the hospitality and the great meals in Salinas, to Corina and Mateo and last but not least to Felipe for all! I think we will come back for a next trip.
